Tales of Aliens and Ancient Kings

The Alien Mountain

In recent years, Danigala has gained international attention due to its peculiar shape. Locals and visitors alike have noted that the perfectly semi-circular rock resembles a modern depiction of a UFO.

Also known as the "Stargate of King Ravana," the area is a hotbed for extraterrestrial speculation. In 2017, the fall of meteor fragments in nearby Aralaganwila made national news (Lankadeepa, 2017), sparking renewed interest in the region. Locals frequently report strange lights in the night sky, often hovering near Danigala or circling nearby peaks.

The Legend: Some believe the flat top served as a landing pad for extraterrestrial visitors in the distant past.

King Ravana's Airport

Sri Lankan folklore is rich with tales of the mighty King Ravana. The Ramayana describes his "Pushpaka Vimana" or Dandu Monara—a flying machine.

The Legend: Believers suggest that Danigala was one of the many "airports" or landing sites used by King Ravana to dock his flying craft. The scorched-looking rock surface and the lack of vegetation on the flat top are sometimes cited as evidence of ancient thruster burns, though geologists attribute this to natural weathering.
